National Dialogue Meeting on Career Pathways

What? A one-day national meeting on September 23, 2014 hosted jointly by the Departments of Labor, Education, and Health and Human Services to highlight career pathways best practices and to encourage discussion about the role of career pathways in light of the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act

Confirmed Federal Agency Participation: Portia Wu and Gerri Fiala, Labor; Mark Greenberg, HHS, Johan Uvin, ED to open the morning's event. Invited: Secretary Perez; Secretary Duncan; Secretary Burwell; Secretary Pritzker; White House and Congressional Staffers; several other federal agencies, including Transportation, Energy, Commerce, and HUD

Who Is Invited? National Event will host approximately 150 participants representing key stakeholder groups, like:

  • business and industry,
  • state and local workforce boards,
  • secondary and postsecondary education representatives,
  • philanthropy,
  • health and human service agencies, and other key stakeholder groups

National Participation: The event will be live streamed. The federal agencies are encouraging state and local "Viewing Parties" for the event. A "Viewing Party" Guide, including social media engagement information, is available.

Key Themes:

  • Establish a "skills movement" that helps ready-to-work Americans get jobs leading to the middle class and that helps businesses hire workers with the skills they need; and
  • Promote the positive impact that career pathways can have on students, workers, and businesses across the country

2014 National UI Directors' and IT/Legal Issues Forum

The Utah Department of Workforce Services invites you to join us in Salt Lake City, Utah for a meeting of Creating Connections in the 21st Century. The 2014 NASWA UI Directors' Conference and IT/Legal Issues Forum will be held October 20-23, 2014.

For 78 years, NASWA has provided a voice in Washington for state workforce agency administrators. Attend this conference for an invaluable forum to share innovative ideas, polices and best practices for the federal-state unemployment insurance (UI) system that can be applied to your own circumstances and used to improve UI services in your home state.

This 2.5 day event includes informational exchange with the top leaders of the several agency partners and equal opportunity training provided and supported by NASWA's EO Committee members and other partners.

Rooms are available for the meeting at the federal per diem rate of $219 per night for single/double bed (plus taxes).
