Workforce IT Support Center's "Building Data Literacy for All" is a customized learning opportunity focused on data literacy and the critical role it plays in improving programs and services for customers. This four-part virtual instructor-led training series, designed for Analysts begins on Wednesday, June 26, 2024 (2:00 - 3:30 p.m. ET) with the first session, Demystifying Data: What It Can (and Can't) Tell You.

During this four-part virtual instructor-led training series, participants will explore:

  • Data analysis methods
  • Data analysis tools
  • Data visualization options
  • Meeting the needs of data and report requestors

The Analysts track is limited to 30 participants and attendance at all four sessions is required.

OVERVIEW

In this training, participants will explore data analysis methods.

Presenters Cynthia Forland, Ph.D. and Scott Wheeler will highlight how to know what exactly where data may be misleading by guiding learners through typical Unemployment Insurance (UI), Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) and Labor Market Information (LMI) dataset examples. The training session will also focus on how to identify data integrity issues, measure the impact and tactfully communicate the effects.

Cynthia Forland, Ph.D. Headshot

 

Dr. Cynthia Forland, a workforce development and labor market expert, brings vast expertise in policy and analysis from her consultancy and senior management roles as the Washington State Employment Security Department. She has a Ph.D. in political philosophy from the New School for Social Research.

 

 

 

Scott Wheeler Headshot

 

Mr. Scott Wheeler, a workforce development expert, leverages a decade of leadership at the Washington State Employment Security Department and five years of consultancy. He has a Master’s of Public Administration from Evergreen State College.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND?

This virtual training series is geared toward staff who are responsible for analyzing and interpreting data, as well as developing reports and visualizations. These targeted staff work primarily with Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA), Unemployment Insurance (UI), Labor Market Information (LMI) or other workforce development programs and services.
