The Effects of PTSD Service Dogs on Service-Related Trauma

Increasingly, greater attention has been given to the roles that animals can play in supporting the health and well-being of Veterans with PTSD, specifically through the use of psychiatric service dogs. Learning objectives include describing PTSD service dogs’ definition, role, and efficacy as well as identifying steps involved in obtaining and implementing a PTSD service dog as a complementary treatment modality.
