Join us for the Multi-State Data Collaborative (MSDC) Learn-and-Share session,  Voice of the State Roundtable for "Data Integration to STEM Attrition and Workforce Supply: A Pilot Approach" on Thursday, February 27, 2025 (2:00 – 3:00 p.m. ET).

OVERVIEW

The Coleridge Initiative is hosting a focus group to gather states' insights on STEM attrition. By emphasizing state priorities and objectives, feedback gathered will directly impact the approach to developing a research agenda to better understand this critical sector of the workforce. The focus group session will help the project team develop its analytical framework to better understand how existing discourse, data collection, and use all connect with state needs in understanding STEM attrition.

Project Background:

The Coleridge Initiative and the State of Arkansas were recently awarded a National Science Foundation grant through America's Datahub Consortium. This grant is focused on building an evidence base that informs attrition in the STEM pipeline and workforce. The project team has developed an analytical plan to comprehensively analyze the dynamic supply and demand of the STEM workforce. It is being executed in three phases: literature review, collaborative planning, and analytical demonstration.

The review of more than 100 existing studies revealed numerous variables influencing attrition in the STEM workforce while highlighting gaps and opportunities for innovative analytical approaches and improved data infrastructure. This will, in part, guide the specific approach for the analytical demonstration phase of the project. The purpose of this focus group is to understand how these identified gaps align with states' needs in understanding STEM attrition.
