Connecting Education and Workforce Systems

In September, NASWA and 1EdTech came together for Working Together to Improve Connections Across Education and Workforce Systems, a webinar coordinated by the Workforce Information Technology Support Center (WITSC). The webinar explored how interoperability and data standards can strengthen connections across education and workforce systems.

State perspectives came from

  • Robbie Vickers, Technical College System of Georgia
  • Dr. Bryan Grady, South Carolina Department of Employment and Workforce
  • Jake Walker, Arkansas Office of State Technology
  • Amy Hiltunen, NASWA, and Emilie Rafal, 1EdTech, served as moderators.

The webinar highlighted how interoperability and shared standards can connect systems, reduce barriers, and support job aligned training opportunities.

The conversation continued at the 2026 NASWA SUMMIT during Elevating Workforce Interoperability: Building the Technical Backbone for ETPL & Workforce Pell. Emilie Rafal, Amy Hiltunen, Kelly Ryan (IN), and Paul Tattory (NJ) explored interoperability and standards as strategic infrastructure to support data exchange across ETPL, workforce, education, and performance reporting systems as states prepare for Workforce Pell.

Together, these conversations highlighted opportunities to strengthen connections across workforce, education, and technology as states modernize systems and service delivery.
