Data Insights and Innovations Award

New York’s Data Analytics Center Garners National Award

WASHINGTON – The National Association of State Workforce Agencies (NASWA) honored the New York State Department of Labor (NYSDOL) with the prestigious Data Insights and Innovations Award at the 2024 Winter Policy Forum in Washington, D.C. Presented by the Workforce and Labor Market Information Committee, this award is bestowed on a state showing excellence and innovation in labor market information.

The Data Analytics Center (DAC) was created after the NYSDOL realized publicly available labor market information (LMI) was not sufficiently accessible for providing necessary data insights for informed decision-making during the pandemic. By making the data more accessible through the DAC, stakeholders have a better understanding of the LMI to identify trends.

The 33 public-facing dashboards in the DAC cover a wide range of topics from traditional LMI, UI claims and U.S. Census Bureau data to staff retirement planning, hiring metrics and historical UI prevailing wages.

“New York’s development of the Data Analytics Center shows a commitment to making informed, data-driven decisions,” NASWA President and CEO Scott B. Sanders said. “It also signifies how they prioritized their labor market information data and department.”

"In an ever-changing labor market landscape, the creation of the Data Analytics Center marks a significant step in our commitment to transparency, innovation, and efficiency,” New York State Department of Labor Commissioner Roberta Reardon said. “This prestigious award from NASWA is not only a recognition of our efforts in data insights and innovations but also a testament to our dedication to serving the public with accessible, accurate, and comprehensive labor market information.”
