UI SIDES Announces Modernized Earnings Verification and Benefit Charges Exchanges

WASHINGTON -- The UI State Information Data Exchange System (UI SIDES) has announced modernization upgrades specifically focusing on the Earnings Verification (EV) Exchange rewrite and Benefit Charges (BC) Exchange enhancements. These improvements are designed to deliver a faster, easier, and more effective system for employers and state agencies to work together.

The UI SIDES technology system provides a quick, accurate, and secure way to help employers respond quickly, accurately, and securely to unemployment insurance claims from state workforce agencies. It is trusted nationwide, operating in 48 states, the District of Columbia and two U.S. territories.

The Earnings Verification Exchange enables state workforce agencies to request and receive wage and earnings information electronically from employers. The Benefit Charges Exchange supports agencies in notifying employers about unemployment benefit charges to their accounts. Together, these systems play a critical role in ensuring accurate and timely unemployment insurance processes.

The Earnings Verification update enables employers to provide more accurate and higher-quality responses to unemployment insurance requests, including:

  • Fraud indicators to alert state workforce agencies when immediate action may be required
  • Flexible wage reporting options
  • Expanded reporting flows to better capture Contract and Commission-based work and earnings

Benefit Charges enhancements include:

  • Flexible options for states to allow protests, appeals, and questions through non-UI SIDES methods
  • Clearer identification when a Third-Party Administrator (TPA) or Professional Employer Organization (PEO) does not represent an employer
  • Easier matching of records using a ClaimantID when Social Security Numbers (SSN) are not available.

Employers currently utilizing UI SIDES E-Response for either exchange do not need to take action to continue participation.
