Concurrent Workshop Session: Bringing Telemedicine to the Veteran Community

Independence G

Description

Bringing Telemedicine to the Veteran Community

Access to quality healthcare has always been a hurdle for the Veteran community. From transportation issues to a shortage of providers in a specific geographic location, the barriers are significant. As a result, too many Veterans go undiagnosed, and the effects of their trauma can go untreated — severely impacting their quality of life. This discussion will begin with an overview of the benefits of telehealth for the Veteran community, diving into specific examples that demonstrate how a single telemedicine visit could change the trajectory of a Veteran's health. Then, Dr. Purdy will break down the key barriers to getting Veterans to agree to digital care. Finally, she will dive into specific strategies for overcoming the stigma associated with telemedicine amongst the Veteran community.
