Midwest Equal Opportunity Summit Committee

The Midwest Equal Opportunity Summit Committee, which is consist of State Equal Opportunity Officers and support staff from Missouri, Kansas, Oklahoma and Colorado conducted an assessment on the barriers and training needs under Section 188 of WIOA for the WIOA workforce system. The assessment conducted led the committee to coordinate the Midwest Equal Opportunity Summit held on May 15- 17, 2019 in Kansas City, MO. The committee coordinated training for State/Local Equal Opportunity Officers, Local Workforce Development Board (LWDB) Directors and American Job Center Leadership staff on their obligation with Section 188 of WIOA and 29 CFR Part 38.

Describe the nominee's significant contributions towards the understanding and achievement of equal opportunity and nondiscrimination for all employees and customers. Response (400 word limited).

The Midwest Equal Opportunity Summit Committee was able to coordinate significant contributions towards achieving Section 188 of WIOA compliance by partnering with the following organizations to provide training on nondiscrimination and equal opportunity topics:

  1. U.S. Department of Labor, Civil Rights Center (CRC),
  2. U.S. Department of Justice,
  3. U.S. Equal Opportunity Commission (EEOC),
  4. U.S. Department of Labor, Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs (OFFCP),
  5. Great Plains ADA Center,
  6. PROMO-Missouri,
  7. Missouri Division Employment Security,
  8. State Equal Opportunity Officer (CO),
  9. Missouri-Northwest Workforce Development Board,
  10. Missouri Office of Workforce Development.

Provide a statement of results, accomplishments, impacts, and any other appropriate information that demonstrates why the nominee's efforts described in question #1 were an exceptional contribution. Response (400 word limit).

This event inspired both State and Local Directors, Equal Opportunity Officers and others to be responsive to customers, employees, and the general public while improving knowledge and increasing awareness of equal opportunity obligations under WIOA. The Midwest Equal Opportunity Summit Committee was able to provide training that impacted State/Local Equal Opportunity Officers, LWDB Directors, and American Job Center Leadership staff which was exceptional effort on behalf of the Committee. The Committee was able to provide resources from Missouri and Oklahoma that made this event free of cost to over 115 participants from fifteen states which included:

  8. Oklahoma
  9. Missouri
