WASHINGTON – This week at the National Association of State Workforce Agencies’ (NASWA) 2020 Winter Policy Forum in Washington, D.C., the Nevada Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation (DETR) received the prestigious Data Insights and Innovations award, presented by the NASWA Workforce and Labor Market Information Committee. This award recognizes states demonstrating excellence and innovation in the area of labor market information.

Nevada's DETR received the award for its Demographic Reporting Enhancement Tool, developed by its Research and Analysis Bureau. Data generated by the tool provides a detailed picture of Nevada’s underserved communities needing targeted assistance and enables the agency to reach individuals in the most needed areas throughout the state. This data is shared across the state, prompting a focus on relevant local data, practical solutions arising from analysis of the data and challenges and opportunities for employers engaging with underserved populations.

“The positive impact this data tool will have on Nevada communities and the state cannot be overstated,” said Scott B. Sanders, Executive Director of NASWA. “Innovations such as this are vital for economic and workforce development stakeholders. A key benefit of this approach is that it can be reproduced in other states with little modification.”

"To be chosen to receive this esteemed award is a humbling experience and a great honor. Our success is an example of what can be achieved by integrating inspirational leadership, strategic policymaking and pioneer thinking," said DETR Director, Dr. Tiffany Tyler-Garner.
