Using Generative AI to Help Job Seekers Discover Registered Apprenticeships

On September 3, NASWA and the New York State Department of Labor (NYSDOL) presented Talk With Tyler at the third annual GitLab Foundation Demo Day in Washington, DC. Talk With Tyler is a new tool that uses generative AI to help job seekers discover Registered Apprenticeship opportunities that align with their interests and experience. The tool asks a few simple questions and allows users to describe—in their own words—the kind of work they enjoy. It then compares their responses with apprenticeship program data and O*NET occupational attributes to recommend potential career matches.

For each match, Talk With Tyler provides an easy-to-understand description of the occupation, why it may be a good career opportunity, and why it matches the information the user provided. Explore Talk With Tyler and see the tool in action at ny.talkwithtyler.org.

NASWA and NYSDOL were among 15 grantees selected by GitLab Foundation from nearly 1,000 applications.
