Graph Data Engineer & Front-End Developer (Remote)
National Association of State Workforce Agencies
We are seeking a talented and experienced Graph Data Engineer & Front-End Developer to join our team and lead our efforts around link analysis. This multifaceted role will involve developing and maintaining complex graph-based systems, utilizing Amazon Neptune for graph database management, and creating advanced queries to extract and manipulate data. Additionally, you will be responsible for building and maintaining dynamic, real-time link analysis visualizations using React.js and Regraph SDK.
Background on NASWA
The National Association of State Workforce Agencies (NASWA) is the national organization representing all 50 state workforce agencies, D.C., and U.S. territories. These agencies deliver training, employment, career, and business services, in addition to administering unemployment insurance, veteran reemployment, and labor market information programs. NASWA provides policy expertise, shares promising state practices, and promotes state innovation and leadership in workforce development.
Background on UI Integrity Center
The NASWA UI Integrity Center (“The Center”) is a component of NASWA Services which provides a wide range of supportive services to NASWA members. The Center provides services to assist states with the detection and prevention of UI fraud and improper payments. One of the projects managed by the NASWA UI Integrity Center is the Integrity Data Hub (IDH). The IDH allows participating states to submit Unemployment Insurance (UI) claims data for cross-matching and analysis to support the detection and prevention of UI fraud and improper payments. The IDH contains an increasingly expanding set of data sources to provide advanced data cross-matching and data analytics capabilities.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in both back-end graph database management and front-end development, with the ability to create a seamless 2 2 integration between the two. You'll be responsible for the entire flow—designing the data models, optimizing queries, and crafting the user interfaces that display this data in an interactive and user-friendly way.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the design, development, and optimization of graph data systems using Amazon Neptune.
- Build and optimize complex queries (including Lambda queries) to mine and manipulate large datasets housed in Redshift and integrated into Neptune.
- Design and implement data models in Amazon Neptune, ensuring that the structure supports efficient link analysis.
- Build, update, and maintain dynamic React.js-based user interfaces for displaying graph data and link analysis visualizations.
- Use the Regraph SDK (or similar graph visualization tools) to create interactive and real-time graph visualizations for internal users.
- Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to integrate back-end data with front-end visualizations, ensuring a seamless user experience.
- Optimize performance for both back-end queries and front-end visualizations, ensuring a smooth, responsive interface for users interacting with large datasets.
- Provide technical leadership and guidance, mentoring junior team members, as necessary.
Qualifications
Required
- 3+ years of experience in graph database technologies, with a strong focus on Amazon Neptune.
- Proven expertise in Lambda queries and manipulating large datasets in graph databases.
- Strong experience in front-end development using React.js, including building dynamic, data-driven interfaces.
- Proficient in working with Regraph SDK or other graph visualization libraries.
- Solid experience with AWS Redshift and data integration between relational and graph databases.
- Expertise in data modeling for graph databases and knowledge of graph algorithms.
- Ability to work independently and manage both back-end and front-end development tasks within a fast-paced environment.
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to clearly explain complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Strong understanding of JavaScript (ES6+), HTML, and CSS.
- Experience with state management libraries like Redux, Context API, or MobX.
- Strong experience with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP).
- Strong experience with other AWS services (e.g., API Gateway, S3, DynamoDB).
Preferred
- Experience with other graph technologies like Neo4j or Apache TinkerPop.
- Familiarity with AWS Lambda and other AWS services.
- Experience in data analytics or machine learning to enhance link analysis.
- Experience with JavaScript frameworks/libraries (e.g., D3.js, other visualization libraries).
Education
