Overview
The Department of Employment Services (DOES), Workforce and Federal Program Bureau, is seeking a highly experienced Workforce Development Specialist to serve as a Local Veterans’ Employment Representative (LVER) within the American Job Centers (AJCs). In alignment with DOES’ mission to connect District residents, job seekers, and employers to opportunities that support fair, safe, and effective working communities, this senior-level role provides both strategic leadership and operational oversight in the delivery of veteran-focused workforce services.
Duties
- Provides individualized career services to veterans and eligible persons with barriers that prevent entering and retaining employment: such as disabilities, lack of educational achievement and/or vocational credentialing, and under-employment.
- Provides case management services for veterans, with special emphasis on veterans with service-connected disabilities.
- Provides individual career services to meet the employment needs of disabled veterans and other eligible veterans, with the maximum emphasis directed toward serving those who are economically or educationally disadvantaged, including homeless veterans, and veterans with barriers to employment.
- Advises all veterans and eligible persons on labor market conditions and requirements in specific occupations or industrial fields. Informs and explains to disabled, Vietnam-era, other veterans, and eligible persons the benefits and rights that they are entitled.
- Facilitates interviews, registering and documenting relative occupational service codes for veteran job seekers.
- Identifies veteran job seeker needs and/or problems to determine appropriate actions required for referral services and, when necessary, referring veteran job seekers to appropriate specialized services such as occupational skills training, employment assistance and supportive services.
